Dental Crowns in Yorba Linda
Crowns or tooth “caps” are dental restorations designed to fit completely over a tooth and encase it. Tooth colored crowns have become increasingly popular, compared to the traditional metal fillings because they blend in with your natural teeth and make the repair unnoticeable, producing an even, white smile.
At Knoll Family Dentistry, we provide dental crowns for several problems:
- Add strength to weakened, broken, or severely worn teeth
- Improve the shape, size, appearance, and alignment of individual teeth
- To protect a tooth weakened after Root canal treatment
- To cover and support a tooth with a large filling
- To hold a dental bridge in place
- To cover misshaped or severely discoloured teeth
- To cover a dental implant.
What to expect
The process of crown placement requires at least two appointments spaced about two weeks apart. During the initial consultation, the dentist will check the damaged tooth to determine if you’re a good candidate for dental crowns.
Then, the dentist will reshape the tooth and take digital impressions of your mouth that will be used to create your custom quality crown in a dental lab, making sure to match the color of your crown to that of your teeth, or use a different shade if you wish to improve your smile. The dentist will also prepare a temporary crown to cover the tooth until the permanent crown is ready.
On your next visit, the dentist will remove the temporary crown and permanently cement your custom crown. If the tooth had decay or lost a lot of its original structure, a preliminary filling of the tooth will be necessary before crown placement in order to stabilize the tooth and ensure
that the crown will fit perfectly.
